Downstate Illinois: New Interest in Glass

We received this message from member Joy Thornton-Walter in Champaign, Illinois:

All of the 50th Anniversary celebrations have made downstate Illinois more conscious of glass.  Among the many museum exhibits that David Dunn organized so wonderfully for the AACG, one was in Champaign (Krannert Art Museum) and one in Mt. Vernon (Cedarhurst Center for the Arts).

As you would guess, Jon and Judith Liebman have been the chief ambassadors in Urbana and Champaign.  The University of Illinois has an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and they have taught eight-week courses there twice!  Every time people see our glass, they mention the Liebmans. who are very generous at providing their home with its beautiful collection for many nonprofit groups here.

Thanks to all that publicity, two local groups have called and asked John and me to “show and tell” at our homes.  We’ll have the Krannert Art Museum Council in November and the Illinois Club’s Antiques and Collectibles Group in December.

We intend to have plenty of MCGAG flyers lying around, for people to pick up!
